Pam’s Childhood and Early Motherhood
In childhood, Pam came from a loving family of four. This included her mother Melba, her father David, and her sister Sally who was six years older than Pam. Unfortunately, while Pam was young her parents divorced and Sally left home when Pam was only 11. Pam had wonderful aunts, and uncles, and cousins and when she entered Morning Side High School she met her life’s best friend Karen Owens.
One of Pam’s favorite childhood memories is of her mother. She often read to her Edgar Allen Poe’s poem “Annabel Lee”, which instilled in her a love of poetry.
In the very first season book “Summer of ‘83”, Pam wrote on the inside cover:
“Poetry: the art work of poets; the embodiment in appropriate language of beautiful or high thought, imagination or emotion, adapted to arouse the feelings and imagination.”.
Pam’s favorite poet was Mary Oliver and one of her favorite poems of Mary Oliver’s was “The Summer Day”.
